Nu'uanu Residence
This 1920s home bordering Nu'uanu Stream was restored and renovated, and its lower floor was expanded into the sloping crawl space to create a new family room and "mother-in-law" apartment.
Kawela Bay Residence
This oceanfront home is designed as three connected pavilions and is raised eight feet off the ground to fulfill flood plain requirements and catch ocean views and breezes.
Rusti and Violet Residence

Ke Kailani Residence
This conceptual design for a luxurious three-bedroom home in Ke Kailani's shoreline community on the Island of Hawaii reflects four of MAI's design goals.
Lanikai Residence
This two-story, 6500-square-foot home in Lanikai is designed in the kama'aina style and is positioned to enjoy spectacular ocean views.
Hanalei Residence
In accord with MAI's restoration/renovation plan, this historic 1926 Hanalei beach house was raised, moved, stripped of later additions, and reconfigured to resemble its original floor plan.
Olowalu Residence
This new 9200-square-foot home on a rocky beachfront site in Olowalu, Maui integrates "smart-house" technology into its 1930s kama´aina style of architecture.
Wailea Residence
On the beach at Wailea, Maui, this new 8000-square-foot home has two master suites on the second floor, offices for the owners, and a separate building for guests.
Sims Residence
Trellised decks and shaded lanais link the two naturally-ventilated pavilions of this home, built at a 2000-foot elevation in Kamuela, Island of Hawaii. The first pavilion was completed in 1991, the second in 1997, and a separate garage "pavilion" added in 2002.
Obana Residence Renovations and Additions
Mason Architects renovated the original 1930s house in Manoa Valley, Oahu and integrated an additional 20 percent more floor space into its design.
Ludwig Residence
When the owner of a 1930s style home in Hilo purchased the lot next door, Mason Architects designed a guest house on it and unified the two lots into an architectural whole.
Subdivisions
Mason Architects designs multi-unit subdivisions that adapt to the contours of the landscape, conserve energy, and reflect the contemporary Hawaiian style of architecture in such features as double-pitched roofs, wide eaves, and use of natural ventilation.
Kilohana
The 72 energy-efficient homes in this subdivision are built in a contemporary Hawaiian style on 7500- to 9000-square foot lots in Kihei, Maui.
Ke Ali´i Kai
On the westerly flank of Haleakala, the 95 homes in Ke
Ali‘i
Kai are built along the contours of a natural gulch.
Woodcreek
A 102-unit Planned Development Housing (PDH)
project in Launani
Valley, O´ahu.
Apartments/Bachelor Enlisted Quarters
Mason Architects has designed or renovated buildings to accommodate the needs of residents who live in small units but share common spaces. For enlisted military personnel, these designs ensure the Navy's Quality of Life standards; for people with special needs, such as troubled teenagers or elderly people who would otherwise be homeless, these buildings provide a cheerful and comfortable environment.
Kulaokahua Apartments
This four-story building at the corner of Ward and Kinau Streets in Honolulu houses 30 apartments for homeless elderly people. Its louvered awnings, false gables, and horizontal siding reflect its residential function.
Bay Club
Mason Architects designed this 114-unit development in Waikoloa, Island of Hawaii, as luxurious time-share residences. Unbuilt.
Building 1330
Wing A of this Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, Pearl Harbor, did not meet the Navy's Quality of Life standards, so Mason Architects renovated it, upgrading the rooms and adding a new roof, new fire alarm system, and new interior and exterior finishes.
Buildings 1367 and 1368, Pearl Harbor
These two bachelor enlisted quarters were gutted, renovated, and linked by a new one-story addition, which serves as a common recreation and office area.
Bobby Benson Center
Donations from the public paid for this residential treatment center for teenagers. Four residential units and an administration/dining building enclose a landscaped open area in Kahuku, Oahu.
Edwin Thomas Home
Mason Architects designed a new steel and concrete three-story structure within the existing brick walls of this historic building, which now contains 28 rooms for homeless elderly people.
Guam, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters
In each of the building’s 36 apartments, two Navy enlisted personnel
will have their own sleeping spaces but share kitchen and bathroom, will
enjoy common reading and recreational spaces downstairs, and will be protected
by rigorous security.
