Kawela Bay Residence
This oceanfront home on Kawela Bay comprises three connected pavilions. The center pavilion contains the kitchen, dining room and living room opening onto a covered deck. Another pavilion houses the master suite with study, and the third provides two bedroom suites for the owners’ grown children.
Built eight feet off the ground to meet flood plain require-ments, the home is simple, spacious, and crafted of natural materials.
It is oriented to capture clear views of the Bay.
- The rooms, with vaulted ceilings and floors of Brushbox wood or slate, transition easily into the outdoor spaces.
- The home is eco-friendly and energy-efficient. Its raised elevation and sliding windows and doors of low-e glass provide the home with ample natural ventilation as well as unobstructed ocean views. Cabinets are made of Lyptus wood, a renewable resource.
- The pavilion plan of the 4000-square-foot home suits the character of the neighborhood. Its roof of standing-seam copper, cedar siding, and low-maintenance landscape design ensure that the residence blends into the natural surroundings of Kawela Bay.
