Guam Bachelor Enlisted Quarters
On a 2.6-acre site on the U.S. naval base in Guam, Mason Architects has designed
a two-story building, MCON-P-430, to house bachelor enlisted personnel. The 36-unit building replaces two BEQ buildings that have been demolished.
It is the first of future barracks planned for the site and serves as a model
to provide an enhanced quality of life for Navy personnel.
- Each of a unit's two occupants has a private
sleeping room but shares a common space with semi-private bathroom,
washer/dryer,
kitchenette with microwave, under-counter refrigerator, sink, two-burner
range, and full-length mirror.
- MCON-P-430’s core area contains a lobby,
multi-purpose room, reading room, restrooms, and janitorial and storage
rooms
- Amenities include cable TV, air conditioning,
conduits for LAN connections, and a fire alarm system.
- The building
meets Anti-Terrorism/Force
Protection (AT/FP) requirements with security measures such as ¼-inch
laminated glazing, an alarm/warning system, minimum building and parking
standoff distances, and vehicular barriers
