Kalama Beach Park

In 1978 the City and County of Honolulu acquired this four-acre site on Kailua Beach from the Boettcher Estate. The site includes a 1937 residence, one of the first designed by Vladimir Ossipoff after he opened his own firm in Honolulu. Mason Architects prepared a Master Plan that called for restoration of the house, relocation of the caretaker's cottage, and improvements to the landscaping, walkways, and parking lot. MAI also completed an Environmental Assessment and obtained a Special Management Area permit for the restoration of the house and improvements to the Park. Work completed since 1998 includes:
  • Reroofing the house and making it ADA accessible
  • Replacing windows and doors and miscellaneous exterior repairs
  • Refinishing the interior

The building is now a meeting place for community groups, and the grounds serve as a beach park open to the public.
